a local view in a global market?

I can see why you might hink this is a good idea in the short run. I think in the long run you will see this to be very dangerous. It's a global market out there and even your own president favours globalisation. You can not have it both ways. This kind of action can only get a simular reaction from other countries. I'm sure the US will scream unfair trade the loudest in that case. So we will buy AMD processors in the EU (they have a large factory in Germany and are building a new one as we speak so more jobs in the EU) We will dump microsoft and go with Suse. Mixed blessing here since Novell is buying Suse but as I understand it Suse will stay based in Germany so more jobs in the EU. We'll dump McDonalds in favour of a European franchise. We'll stop buying any cars made by manufacturers with US ties. Etc Etc. This kind of protectionism has never, in the long run, deliverd any benefits and will cost you more then it looks like giving you now.

Also... there are a lot of US companies that would love to sell their goods to the potentialy enormous markets of the developing countries. If India get's these kind of investments the national income will rise meaning more money to buy just those goods your companies would like to sell. Keeping develping countries backwards is bad buisiness. Western markets have a large level of saturation, the reason why your washing machine only lasts a few years so you will have to buy a new one after a few years, so new markets opening up are very atractive for western companies.
