Go Away?
Who really wants patents to go away?

The answer is a very few people who don't know any better.

Instead of going away, the patent system needs to be enforced closer to its original intention. Ideas should not be patentable. SPECIFIC processes and methods are patentable. If you read the CFRs for patent application, you can plainly see applications MUST be specific in nature. Thus, patenting the idea of playing music in a device small enough to fit in your pocket using digital means IS NOT according to the rule. However, that idea was patented and Sony paid the guy money to get out of court battles. Until the patent system goes back to patenting only specific and detailed methods and processes, it will inhibit innovation not support it.
