..Hmmm, seems to me that everyone was copying everyone and the little guy got ran over...

If you think things are bad now or in the past then just wait.
If you have a website for your company you may get a letter from the e-commerce patent holder.
He'll go away for about $5K.
The patenting of processes doesn't have a equivalent in the real world because it would be too silly.

Yeah you're happy with the status quo but there are lots of us that think it needs changing.
In fact, software patents need to go away.
