Loverock echoes the multimedia myth...
Here we read Loverock repeating the myth that Linux is no good at multimedia, yet here I sit watching television on my Linux PC, while happily compiling my test code. I can swing over to any Flash-based site and view it. I can play MP3s, OGGs, and a half-dozen other common music formats. The only video formats that aren't directly available are Windows Media and Quicktime, yet even these are available through mPlayer and Xine with a bit of DLL trickery. I can watch DVDs - granted I went honest and bought a hardware card instead of resorting to DeCSS - but I could watch them in software if I wished.

The production of media is coming along nicely with digital video editing products in the works with ancillary support in the production of stills, animations, and 3D. Audio editing is also coming along nicely with projects like Audigy. Ever since Hollywood studios took an interest in Linux, the media production ability has grown both in scope and robustness.

The solutions are out there.
