Which support issues were you thinking of?
Do you have any particular support issues in mind that customers of major distros are having trouble with now? 2.4 is pretty mature at this point and 2.6 isn't scheduled to hit RedHat or SuSE until 2005 according to what I've seen from their press releases in the last few days. Is there a 3rd distro that you consider major that is ahead of this conversion timetable? Perhaps something like localization or language support issues for Turbolinux or Red Flag? Those aren't really kernel issues though, so that seems unlikely.

I haven't done a newsgroup search to see if there are any ongoing 2.4 problems users are having that will be left unresolved by a change in support policies to only supporting 2.6 once it's actually released and users start to put in into place on production systems somewhere down the road. But if you have some important info for us on that topic then this would be the best time to get that info out to the community so the gap can be filled before it causes any disruption that will be hard to recover from if it gets ignored for too long.

It seems to me that supporting kernels that have issues would be a great income opportunity for distributors and they would be slow to discontinue that income stream. It's a business plan that has made loads of $ for MS. Why wouldn't it work for sellers of commercial distros? Debian still supports everything back to 2.0 I believe. They are certainly the largest non-commercial distro.

For now I would just recommend that you guard your bowl more closely in the morning so that no one can pee in your corn flakes.
