This isn't the first time
that lawmakers enacted laws about things they do not understand. It is merely a PR move in the year before national elections, as our many laws that passed with cool names that have very little effectiveness. The law will do nothing to stem the flow of unslolicited commercial email since it does not go the core of the issue -- allowing mail to be sent to only those who opt-in and then enforcing the law rigourously. Of course, any US law will not apply to offshore servers and guess where the spammers will send from? Until we have opt-in legislation rather than opt-out then you and I would be better off smoking rope than expecting any meaningful improvement in the current sorry state of email advertising. As far as I am concerned, there are no legitimate commercial emails in my mailbox, it is all ****...
