Comtemporary programmers can do most of this.
The bar gets raised.
But, you might have to pay for some of it.
I don't think the 'free' bit is at all important.
Software, because it can so easily, will always be pushing the boundaries.
Voice and other input mediums (iris scanner?) will change the way we use the computer, pushing developers to devise new ways of consuming the data.

Proprietary Vs Open will be decided by the consumer.
