FUD Plain and Simple
MicroSoft doing what it does best - spreading FUD. Balmer cites
no facts; Gates blathers about something he either apparently
knows nothing about or is lying [I vote for the later] and it is all
based on the claims of SCO of patent infringement that are so
tenuous that the suit will probably be be dismissed within 90 to
120 days. Summary Judgement motions following Novell's latest
filing.

What does Microsoft do second best? Steal other peoples IP. I
haven't done a search to determine the number of patent
infringement suits that Microsoft has settled in the last five years
[I stopped counting at 25] and they effectively lost every one.

What does Microsoft do third best? Exert their market
dominence in a way that is violative of US and European
Antitrust laws and they continue to do that. Despite the fact
that the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia
continues to turn a blind eye to their behavior, others do not.
How many antitrust suits has Microsoft lost since the settlement
was filed in the DC Court? I lost count at 6.

Foreign government technology officers are not as gullible as US
corporate CIOs appear to be and they are not as easily cowed
either. If the Steves think that they can intimidate the Chinese
Bureaucrats they are living in a universe that neither they nor
rational humans inhabit. Apparently they have gotten away with
this kind of behavior for so long that they think they can get
away with it for ever.

Microsoft need a good punch in the mouth and the Chinese are
just the folks to deliver it.

regards
