What Sun needs to do to be trusted
Sun does have a very solid operating system in Solaris - when it is running on SPARC, that is. I cannot see how Sun can be considered 'interested' in the x86 space until Sun makes some sort of real effort to offer a hardware line in that space. Until then it seems like they think of Solaris on x86 as nothing more than a way to hook you into Solaris when you are small and trying to save on hardware, and then reel you in when you actually start to grow and need to upgrade.

SPARC is good hardware, if you have the wallet to support it, and that seems to be where Sun still intends for all of its' customers to end up. If they really thought their hardware and their OS could compete on pure merit, they'd also support Linux on SPARC, and put themselves into real competition with everyone.
