Microsoft typically copies others.
There is not one major inovation made by Microsoft. You might see the first widely distributed version of some technologies on Windows, but that does not mean they invented it.

And, those clever little things that the users don't like, if one distribution puts in and you don't like it, you can remove it. And you can also switch to another distribution. With Microsoft you are SCREWED!
