uk patent office submission to EU.
The UK patent office's submission to the EU is sort of in favour of software patents, but very cautiously. Having been part of the consultative process, I've been informed that in particular, Software Patents would only be applicable to innovative algorithms, and specifically excluded the laisse faire attitude of USPTO, where just about anything can be patented. I think one click webshop patents just won't happen in europe.

If the US's closest ally in Europe holds this position, I wouldn't be expecting a US style free for all patent system anytime soon.

It's none of my business, but I think Americans should write their Representatives and kick some political butt. If you don't, I think you'll trash your internal industry with these stupid patent claims, where it is cheaper to pay up than fight even though it's a nonsense claim.
Well it's up to you guys, it's your future.
