But still MS is just a startup in IT.
Fairly hard to find anything they "invented".
The problem with software patents is that normal people think they represent innovations (as it used to be) but is no longer.

The problem with a one man company is that "it" is still sitting in "its" garage looking at the world and thinkin:

So there are cellphones, lets take that business.
So there are play consoles, lets take that business.
So ther are network protocolls, so lets take that business.
So there are supercomputers, so lets take that business.
So there are PDAs, so lets take that business.
So there are embedded stuff, so lets take that business.
So there are search engines, so lets take that business.
So there are AOL and co., so lets take that business.
So there are TV, so lets take that business.
So there are musicdownloads, so lets take that business.

So there is realy no way a small 50-60000k person company (10% layers!) can succed technically.

All that remains is to try to lobby the "law".
