There is a flaw to your theory....
If you are talking about desktop OS.... maybe....just maybe you have a point. BUT, when it comes to server software,and the NOS and network arena in general, MS is sooooooooo far behind in the game when it comes to IP that it is not funny.

Between IBM, Novell and Sun, they probably have quardruple the IP that MS wishes they had. Not to mention Xerox.

You seem to forget, the crux of the just settled lawsuit was over IP...NOVELL's not MS.
