Not really...
At first I too thought MS would use patents to "fight" open source. But the more I think of it, it's much better to control it than "fight" it. I mean if it cost's you just as much to buy the "add ons" as it does to buy Windows, then there is no cost advantage at all. In fact, it would just be easier to use Windows.
