REAL Title: MS Threatens Open Source with Patent Litigation
If you can't beat them on price - then litigate! Microsoft are sadly delusioned if they believe they will be able to rid themselves of open source by litigation.

My business has a number of PCs, running Windows. We are experimenting with Linux and would like to keep a balance between Windows and Linux to keep in touch with my client's sites.

But if MS litigates and tries to use patents to fend off Linux he will have lost one customer - ME. I will refuse to update to Longhorn (or the next Windows release from when he ligitages). Microsoft, as some will tell me, will not notice my company's absence from their Windows customers as much as a beach would not miss a grain of sand.

But when the tide turns and it is not just me, but Joe Bloggs down the road, you, the company you work for, Ernie Ball (to name a larger company who had actually had the courage to change) and others who refuse to let their freedom of choice be removed by a convicted monopolistic company - then Microsoft may take notice.

Banjo

PS: It says a lot that Microsoft equate competing with controlling the entire sandpit. Or Balmer saying piracy will decrease if HARDWARE costs are reduced! Whatever happened to the basic market adage of "If you lower the price you will sell more units"?
