"whining to have it given to standards body" etc
1. Can you provide links identifying who "whined about giving it to a standards body" (MS Office formats I guess you mean).

2. Lock In. tell me, do you lose information if you store files in ASCII delimited TXT etc etc.
The answer is of course yes, you lose all sorts of formatting that you've put in, and therefore $$.
RTF is hardly any better either.
Therefore it is true that Office format produced lockin.

3. XSLs that I wrote to translate MrProject XML files to OpenOffice XML format: Once again you miss the point. This isn't me saying "i'm Mr Wonderful I did this", I was pointing out that it is EASY to TRANSFORM between DTDs in XML.
MS Office XML --> OpenOffice XML and vice versa is probably not very hard at all.
It also makes migration to an XML repository much easier also, and onwards to logical document editing which suits organistions better than the damn manual way of working with a wordprocessor.
