Closed source plugins are common in the GPL world
I use closed source stuff all over the place. It just works like a plugin. It generally comes in binary form and thus it is protected from tampering. The open source GPL code simply accomodates it. You load your GPL product and then go to Microsoft's site or whereever and read the EULA, check the box, and away you go. Not a big deal.
