VOD is an intersting concept. In theory we were going to do something like that with VCR's but in the end we were either too stupid or too lazy to program our vcr's. In the end the only stuff copied was shows we did not want to miss and could not be present to see.

The VOD may not be financially workable because currently shows are placed to compete with shows on other stations and encourage you to watch other shows on the same network. That is you might watch a highly rated show which is followed by a much weaker show, which you might also watch since you are already on the couch but under other circumstances would not bother. This enables the networks to price the ad spots depending on the estimated watching public and make good money on both sides of a highly rated show. Now if you have vod for all network tv pricing for ad time and scheduling of shows becomes a nightmare. For sports vod is a little useless unless the game is only slightly delayed otherwise you will likely hear the outcome from some source negating most of the desire to see the game later.

And really who the hell wants to sit down and figure out what to watch and when. When I sit in front of the tube I usually watch whatever is scheduled on the tube and don't really want to think. Sure occasionally it would be nice to choose the time but you know the choices for vod would be limited and mostly suck for the reasons stated above at the very least a show would not be available for vod until sometime after it's first airing. Meaning if we really like it and can be present we will see it when it is aired and use vod only if we happen to miss it.

Finally we all know how easy it is to hack MS software so for those with no concience you should really be supporters of this. If this is hacked as easily as the rest of MS software, for those who don't care, it will be free VOD or easy rips straight to the pc.
