I Believe Video On Demand Can Work Now
First, broadband in the US simply can NOT deal with interactive or on demand video. Until everyone has 50 - 100 Meg per second connections in the home, interactive and on demand video is a joke. Even if the pipe was there, no server in the world could handle the load.

Actually if companies that provide Video On Demand (VOD) services could stream programs that get saved on a user?s hard drive (kind of like the way Quicktime does it) VOD could actually work. DRM could ensure that saved files are not illegally distributed. I think the potential for VOD is gigantic. I think a lot of people resent having to structure their lives around TV station schedules to see the programs they want to see. If I want to see Crossfire, Cheers, Wings, and maybe Spiderman 2 when I go home, I would really like to be able to simply choose those programs from a menu, and watch them when I come home. I think a lot of people waste time watching TV: wading through programs they really don?t want to see.
