Solaris 2.x is a System V derivative
Versions of SunOS prior to version 5 (the current one) were indeed BSD deriatives, but for some reason or other Sun decided to base Solaris on System V. Stands to reason that in order to open source their OS, they would have to remove any proprietory 3rd party code, including the System V code, which, as we all know now, is controlled (if not owned) by SCO. I would therefore expect the new open source Solaris to be a BSD derivative, more closely related to SunOS4 than to previous Solaris releases.
