Interesting
I'm assuming that you set up that web site INTERNALLY, and hopefully you won't have an internal DDoS attack!

The centralized model never really died - mainframes have never dissapeared (except from HP! - they did a big thing about shutting down their last mainframe), heck I do my timesheet on a mainframe at the largest corporation - named for its founder - in the world!

My thoughts are that the client/server model never was given a chance to live up to its potential. The "server" part was expensive and proprietary - while the "client" side was equally proprietary - but in a different way. A Sun server is expensive, a Sun client is not too expensive, but is NOT Micro$oft - or maybe the client IS M$ - and its proprietary doesn't work with Sun's server proprietary. In any event, Linux is gaining ground so quickly because it addresses the shortcommings of client/server in a non-proprietary way. Ax is right about wanting your OWN personal computer - with its local storage, and as kick-a** graphics card as possible. Client/server will make a comeback - and these "service" guys will become - well, service guys (as in computer mechanics).
