- Mr. Farber, WHY?
-
Why is it that every time some consulting group or so called "expert" makes a claim about the future of software you jump all over it as if it were the second coming?
Web based apps, centralized computing, software as a service, whatever, have been around in one guise or another for a very long time and the fact of the matter is people are NOT going for it. Maybe I can explain it like this, you see we have PCs. Now the "P" in PC stands for what? That's right PERSONAL. As in I don't want a friggin centralized computing platform I have no control over. I gave that up when I bought my very first IBM PC.
But companies are going to do it you say. No, companies said they would stay with the backroom mainframe but that is not what happened. Why is that? Because once people had PCs in their hands their productivity went up AND they found ways to use them the IT staff never dreamed of and that lead to competitive advantage.
Here is an important clue for every business even thinking about this. If you are just another clone using the same tools as your competition, doing the same things they do, listening to the same drum as they, you need to close your doors today and save face while you still can... - Posted by: No_Ax_to_Grind Posted on: 11/03/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
