FM on Linux or bye-bye Adobe
With FrameMaker being available only on Windows and Solaris, for small developers, it has become basically a Windows-only product. I had been using FrameMaker on Mac OS and Solaris; I'm not going to use it on Windows and risk security on my system. I will (and did) consider FrameMaker on Linux.

I have been using FM to produce an award-winning newsletter for a branch of a professional and technical society, complete with multi-column cross-linked pages in PDF; the newsletter says "produced with Adobe FrameMaker". But because Adobe has decided to drop Mac as a platform, we are in the process of dropping Adobe. Other parts of the organization consult us, and we unfortunately have to tell them what we are doing. (Yes, we feel abandoned by Adobe.) For that matter, related professional societies talk to us as well, being that we are all struggling non-profits with badly limited budgets.

If Adobe releases a desktop (not server) version of FM for Linux *SOON*, we'll reconsider this. But frankly, the clock is ticking as we build up new infrastructure.
