Now's the time for Adobe.
GIMP still lacks the ability to work with CMYK color models natively, although a plugin is now available. Look for this situation to change very shortly.

LittleCMS looks like it will become the default tool for color management on Linux, unless another player steps up to the table right now. Kodak, are you listening?

MainActor and Cinelerra on Linux have fans and are already stealing new customers to Linux from Premier on Windows/Mac.

Inkscape and Sodipodi are shaping up to be Illustrator/CorelDraw-killers in another year's time, especially in light of Illustrators's notoriously byzantine UI.

PDF? The PDF format is very healthy on Linux (*NIX embraced Postscrip very early on). Unfortunately for Adobe, there's already some pretty good PDF tools on the platform and none of 'em are Acrobat Distiller for Linux.

A year from now will be largely too late to begin thinking about developing Big Graphic Apps for Linux, as others will come to have robust-enough products and greater presence on Linux. Now's also the perfect opportunity for Corel or Macromedia or Deneba to explore Linux (and not just offer apps modded to run under WINE as Corel has done) and steal Adobe's thunder on an entirely new platform that is going places.

By the end of next year, my studio will be out of Windows and only on Mac and Linux. Since I do systems builds/configs and consulting to other graphics professionals, whatever products I'm already using and have good experience with is what I'll be recommending to my comrades in the industry. They're interested. Very interested.

Adobe, Corel, Macromedia, Deneba--the ship has just cast off the moorings. Either jump aboard pronto or miss the voyage.
