---wouldn?t it have been simpler for Apple to have
created a web site that allowed it to reach all Internet
users at once?---

Perhaps it would have been simpler, but Apple has many
reasons behind the iTMS that go beyond just selling
music. Apple is all about the user experience, which is
vastly simpler, faster and more enjoyable using iTunes
than it would be clicking through a website. Also you
must remember that Apple was the first company to get
concessions from the RIAA that allowed for this type of
business. The RIAA was willing to go along because the
service was rolled out to a smaller group, Mac users, first
as a test case.

---Besides, accessing services such as BuyMusic.com is a
lot more flexible and straightforward---

What exactly are you smoking? Accessible? You do know
that BuyMusic can only be accessed by using Internet
Explorer on a Windows PC, right?

---the terms of use downloaded music are usually more
generous---

Wrong, wrong and wrong. The terms at BuyMusic are very
confusing, and change from song to song. It's hard to
know in advance what you can or can't do with what
you're buying. At best, they're equal to Apple's, although
that's only for certain songs. Other songs limit your use
severely.

---In many cases you can copy your music file to 3
computers, burn up to 10 CDs, and place it on an
unlimited amount of devices---

Hello? That's what Apple offers you, and that's in all
cases, not just the occasional song like BuyMusic.

---and you get a decent amount of tracks to choose from
(now about 315,000)---

And Apple has 400,000 songs, plus audio books and files
from NPR.

Your point?
