On the iTunes forums, a host of other users have reported the same problem, with no comments whatsoever from support team on the issue.

Not sure why it is working decently for you!

They ask for birth date, without asking for birth year!! That makes your argument completely wrong! I am ready to provide my age, my birthyear, but not the rest.

It can also convert AAC format to MP3. Why not let download in MP3 when conversion is allowed! They do say in their help that download in the final format is better approach than conversion since conversion might reduce sound quality.
