AAC Support
A quick check finds 3 music players that support the AAC
format, not just the iPod. Granted this is not 40, but
manufacturers had little incentive to include the format on
their players.

If iTunes for Windows becomes popular (hence the AOL and
Pepsi promotions) adding AAC support provides a way for
them to take away some of those iPod sales.

Apple is trying the classic trojan horse attack. It just might
work.
