- RE: Errors, bugs, issues

>1. Installed failed with errors about some corrupt data.cab....
I installed it on my 2 PCs tonight with absolutely no problems.
>2. Too slow on Windowd 2000, 1GHz, 256 MB....
I'm not noticing any slow reponse issues in my library, but I am noticing slow reponses in the music store.
>3. To register, you have to provide your birthdate...
Yes, for most things you register for online you need to provide a birthdate. There are 2 reasons for this... 1 - it's illegal to gather contact info for someone under the age of 13. 2 - you have to be 18 to use a credit-card.
>4. User-Interface is not good enough -- there is a search box there with no search "button" there. What if somebody likes to use mouse only!!
You know, I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it. I think previous versions of iTunes has a search button (at least I don't remember not having a search button.) That being said, it actually requires more effort to use the mouse to enter a typical search. You are already using the keyboard to enter the search criteria... may as well just click 'enter' or 'return'
>5. Says that MP3 is supported, but there is no mention of how to (if allowed) download directly in MP3 format.
iTunes fully supports MP3, AAC, WAV and AIFF. The iTunes Music Store (unless they've changed something) only offers AAC. Remeber there are really 2 distinct products we're looking at here... iTunes and the Music Store. Using it tonight it seems they got the iTunes/jukebox portion near perfect, but the music store part doesn't work nearly as smooth on my PCs as it does my Mac.
6. ...What if Windows crashes... No mention of any such details in help or on website.

Just go to Apple.com and click support. Do a search for iTunes Authorize and you'll see 4 or 5 articles relating to it. The link above was the first article listed and includes information on this issue.
I've been waiting for iTunes for Windows for a long time. I used to be a big WinAmp fan until iTunes originally came out for Mac, then I almost immediately stopped using my PCs for MP3s altogether. Now that I have it on Windows, I think the iTunes portion of the package works great. I installed it, restarted Windows, opened iTunes and withing a minute had all my MP3s and AACs from my Mac playing through this PC. The music store portion of it, unfortunately, needs some optimization for Windows. It's not nearly the slick experience it is on the Mac, and that's unfortunate. It's not going to affect me as much, since I do have a Mac at home and there would no reason for me to suddenly stop purchasing the music on the Mac, but Apple knows better. They don't usually release stuff that doesn't simply ooze user-experience. Hopefully they'll tweak it a little and release a patch or something. - Posted by: JakAttak Posted on: 10/16/03 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
