Not what I asked
You asserted that Fifi is advocating a reduction in innovation in Europe, with the corresponding reduction in jobs and salaries

I asked where Fifi had advocated such reduction, and you merely responded with the allegations of a special interest group that naturally would want state-supported elimination of competition. The last thing the entrenched interests would want would be competition from new startups, and a portfolio of patents is a valuable device to stifle the next Lotus, Ashton Tate or Microsoft.

It is difficult to understand how a state-granted license to prevent others from making or using an invention (eliminating competition) actually promotes jobs and salaries. This position flies in the face of the basic economic principles promoting competition.

Is it now your contention that the US PTO's long-standing opposition to software patenting stemmed from advocacy of reduction of innovation? Indeed, why would anybody actively desire to slow innovation and promote unemployment? Such a charge is ridiculous on its face!

Could it be that the current patent crisis in the U.S. is in part attributable to software patenting and the resuling grant of useless patents and spate of frivolous lawsuits that have ensued? The EPO has managed to retain its position and has not suffered the depreciation in patent value experienced in the U.S.; there may very well be a causal relationship between software patents and decline in patent value.

It would be interesting if you could point to a single software innovation that likely would not have occurred without patenting. Would you say that the U.S. software industry suddently took off, began to employ more people, began to raise salaries when the PTO lost out? Where is the evidence behind your assertion?

Again, if Fifi has advocate the position you ascribe to it (I agree that would indeed be a strange position), I would like to know where to find the statements that support your assertion. Otherwise, please show the logic that links from Fifi's statements to your conclusions.
