Apart from that, I think Microsoft should move to a subscription model, and it would be beneficial for them and customers. I guess some people will never like it, and it will take a while to stop supporting the old way of buying.

Ways to alleive worry:
(1) rely on the quality of your software and support an open standard file format. (but this might be a gamble).

(2) Microsoft's software subscription version 1 was a lousy failure as they had too few releases (and hey you get Windows Update free) for the money. Maybe version 2 would be better.

Also:
As microsoft is still posting 90% profits on windows and office using the current model, until the trend bucks, they won't mess too much with the formula. After all, they're in business to make money.
