Don't trust the roadmap
I'm confused about the value of a subscription offering that purports to keep you up to date when the product they're offering is out of date.
If this is going to work, they can't keep shipping a new product with old versions of Java, Mozilla, etc. Remember that we're not talking about vaporware with some vague future delivery date that Sun can't control. We're talking about stuff that's already out (e.g., Mozilla 1.7 is out, so Mozilla 1.4 isn't merely one release old, but several releases old).
Before I'd take this subscription/update promise seriously, I'd need to see Sun proactively involved in porting new versions to JDS. In other words, I'd expect them to be working on integration of Mozilla 1.7.3, or 1.8, or whatever the NEXT release of that product will be, so that as soon as, or at least shortly after, it hits the street it's available to JDS subscribers. I don't want an upgrade to 1.6 when 1.8 comes out. In these days of buggy browsers, spyware, and JavaScript exploits, no one can afford to use an outdated browser, or other outdated components.
Don't rely on what Sun says it will do. Look at the record. It's not so good.
