There are some real problems with the ASP model where your data is stored on a provider's server and you access it via a browser. There's the question of data security - you no loger can control how secure your databases are you have to trust your provider. Then there's the question of what if you find after a while the service just doesn't meet your expectations? Can you get your data back? Will it be in a form you can easily import into another application? Or, will it cost you a fortune to massage the data (assuming you can get it) into an importable form. What if the company tanks (think the aSP boom in the 90s - notice no one is using that poison term anymore even though that's what companies like Salesforce are - how do you get your data back? Once you get past all the geeky coolness of this technology there are a lot of hard business questions that need answering.
