- There was, but in France, not here
-
Sorry to not have made it clearer: the monopole question had been widely brought in, on the french side, I only replied to it, even saying (in my post that I linked above):
Please read accurately what I wrote, in my 2 earlier posts, Embarrassed sometimes to be French... and Selling truth would make more money than lies, and that I try to make clearer below:
* I think Google should charge its readers instead of (or more than) its advertizers, and charge for search results instead of for ads. This way Google would IMO make more money because charging more directly where the benefit of its work is being done. As often (if not always), good ethics is good business (This would be easier than usually said, as I explained when suggesting my 5 nano-dollar-a-byte micro-payment and price level system. Sorry ZDNet broke the links).
*I think Google was wrong to sell such terms as "bourse des vols" and "bourse des voyages", as those terms belong to the body of the french language, not to Google or its advertizers. Of course Luteciel and Viaticum are wrong too IMO to claim intellectual property rights about it.
I think the french court was right to punish Google
* I also think that the french court did it not for the good reasons but out of a chauvinist trend; most people accustomed to french affairs know that french court wouldn't rule the same way if Google was (or at least was perceived as) a french company.
* I think, and wrote (in the french post of Thu 16 Oct 2003 22:37:50 +0200 that I linked) that the monopoly question is not related here and shouldn't be brought in. I spoke of it just to rebut the previous allegations about it.
