Very well put but I have a question.
Consider AMD's plan for dual core technology, being much like that of the PowerG5, meaning that the chip will pre-empt usage of the dual cores similar to how they now have multi core IPU's and FPU's etc, that CPU logic controls whereby neither the OS nor the apps need knowledge of their existence to benifit from it.

Would it then be fair, --if indeed the dual core will be as transparent as AMD and Intel both claim it will be-- for an app vendor to charge me for running his app on the dual core due to increased benefit to me although the benifit was provided by Intel or AMD as the case may be?

Should I be charged more by app vendors for using the multi core IPU and FPU of the AMD core plus its integrated Northbridge, dual channel memory and RISC/CISC hybrid CPU PowerNow! technology and 3D-Now! acceleration over an Intel P4?

Now I know that Intel was suggesting that the OS would have the ability to assign certain apps to certain cores but that was not AMD's plan. Intel also said that the dual core would be transparent to the apps even if not to the OS. I understand this. This is only food for thought. Something to digest. Do not chew me out please.

Oh, who am I kidding. This is a ZDnet forum isn't it? Go ahead, chew away.
