When I install OS x or App y on my Gnu 8 x CPU SMP server...
...how many times do I install it? How many boxes must I boot? How many Logical volumes must I use? How many data buses does my ethernet card plug into --it only has one connector? How many IP addresses do I need to access it?

I never did understand why I have to eight times as much for less product. Why not build a beuwolf cluster with eight boxes, one CPU each, sixteen ethernet cards (two each), one switch, eight Raid arrays (one each) and have muchas redundancy in the system for the same price with one point of failure?

Sure, it will cost me more for eight single processor boxes than one eight-processor box but I will save on the non-MP processors and I can pay for six processors instead of eight if I don't need as much or pay for nine instead of sixteen if I need just a little more. Nine licenses cost less than sixteen.

An install is an install. I should pay per install. If I virtualise my servers and install two instances of an OS or an app then charge me twice because I am running two copies of the program simultaneously. But running one copy and having it process faster through eight CPU's is still one copy.

Charge me more for enabling your app to take advantage of multi processors but charge me once. No more effort is being used to put it on a 2, 4, 8 or 16 CPU box much less a 2, 4, 8 or 16 core single CPU.

It certainly took MS long enough to see this. Now about Sun, Oracle et al....

P.S. I pay ten times the single CPU install per each additional CPU for Gentoo but 10 x 0 = 0.
