All roads lead to SOA

Buzz word frenzy again...: SOA is the future, but can anyone give a clear, precise definition of what SOA is? I haven't found one yet. In which case how do I know if a product I am buying is SOA or not? How do I make a product SOA compatible.

All we get is lot of vague talk about Web Services and (God help us) XML and no clear talking whatsoever. I begin to doubt that anyone at Gartner has any real experience or understanding of the industry.
