It's been easy for me
I've been moving to Macs ever since I got a PB for business travel
2+ years ago. Their range has been pretty easy for me to
understand. If you want a super cheap desktop then the eMac is
the choice. Lots of heavy processing (or money) and the
PowerMac is hard to beat. The iMac is in the middle and is
fantastic for most home uses. Within each range there are
options available. I boost speed and the HD and buy memory
from a 3rd party to save money.

Laptops are the same. To save money and use for basic
computing there is the iBook and the 12" is very nice. More
horsepower needed? There is the PowerBook.

This year I have replaced the PB (my son got the old one), got my
wife a 12" iBook and taken delivery on a 20" iMac. All are a joy
to use and do their jobs exceptionally well. The key is that I first
chose between using a desktop or notebook and then balanced
cost and performance.
