Custom software is interesting
I find it interesting to hear Mike Lawrie speak about custom software or customized software. Most custom software players dream to become product companies who can build a product and address the requirements of a million users.

What I am interested is in why would a company like Siebel change its product orientation and offer custom software ? Is this a new trend the industry is moving towards ? What does it do to the API and open architecture product philosophies ? What would it do to standards and best practices ? Would it work in a ASP context that a lot of customers are beginning to adopt ?
