How about
- MUCH better security,

- 64-bit apps/system/filesystems

- rock solid kernel

- support / correct implementation of TCP/IP protocols/IPv6

- distributed processing.

I agree that Solaris and other mainstream UNIXes can learn a LOT from the better desktop environments that were developed on Linux. But s/w apps are now being ported to UNIX as well (Gnome, KDE, etc)

If you use a machine as a workstation then a Linux desktop should be just fine.
