Maybe I'm missing something
... but why would anyone want to run a desktop on Solaris? I've spent the last six years driving a Solaris workstation, and (finally!) escaped to a Red Hat box this year. I'm seriously baffled why anyone would want to deal with desktop Solaris given a choice.

The only thing worse than a Solaris desktop would be a Microsoft one. The Solaris desktop will at least run some applications and X to servers running the rest (as distinct from MS, which has to emulate X to run everything on remote servers.)
