Patenting hyperlinks
I remember several years ago a company, I think some British telco (?), tried to convince everyone they had exclusive rights to the concept of hyperlinks, and expected pretty much everyone to pay them licencing fees. This is a similarly stupid idea. In fact the whole concept of patenting "business processes" is rather absurd.

Copyright and patents were designed to protect the hard work of inovators, inventors, artists etc. but they've been corrupted by big businesses and their lawyers, who see them as a way of inventing new (and completely abstract) ways of making money while screwing the little guys.

Hopefully this will all just go away, like the silly hyperlink thing did. Fingers crossed.
