Baloney.

A lot of American soldiers in Vietnam ditched their "M" series assault rifles (American made) in favor of the AK-47 (A communist, Russian made rifle built designed in 1949). Why? Because after slogging through the high humidity and rice paddies all day they discovered if they didn't work the safety frequently they couldn't free it, and would wind up in a firefight with an unusable weapon.

You use the best tool for the job, and you shouldn't be surprised if your enemy recognizes what the best tool is, too.
