Before more get confused...
Let me correct the initial part of your post. Windows, and Mac don't support any of the "latest hardware" you are referring to. It is the other way around, the vendors of that hardware support Windows and Mac. Apple and MS don't spend thousands building and testing drivers for all that "latest hardware." But oddly, much of the drivers for Linux are built by the contributors and if the hardware vendors opened up a bit, more could be built for that "latest hardware." And as a previous poster said, it is a chicken and egg issue. You can help out, just complain to your hardware vendor for Linux support.

Anyway, moving on... your statement concerning difficultly in installing apps is quite valid. Infact many share your opinion. I am not one of them. I have found just the opposite. For me installing apps on Linux is as easy as BSD and much easier than Windows or Mac.

Of course I am not a beginner w/ computers, but I have found new comers who find it just as easy. But only once they get use to how it works. It is quite different from Windows or Mac. There you go research your software, usually buy a CD at some store somewhere, click next to a lot of things, agree to this and that, and finally configure it for your use. While for Linux, you might research on the web (google), download from vendor website, install, maybe accept some license, and finally configure (admittedly sometimes harder).

Many vendors usually automate some or much of the steps in app management. Lets not forget the (usually free) auto updating/upgrading of nearly all of your software on top of the OS! So, I and those I have taught find it much easier than Windows or Mac, totally different, but easier. My next Linux install victim will be my little bro, who seems to know enough Windows to run a virus scan but can't get a firewall or proper networking running. Who knows, he might change my opinions.
