The Joy of GPL
Hereby demonstrating some of the advantages that GPL software has in the world:

* MonteVista can make their changes for their customers even if Linus doesn't like the way they do it -- or even doesn't like the fact that they've done it at all.
* Linus can pick and choose the good parts (kernel preemption for instance) for general distribution
* MonteVista gets the benefit of some pretty substantial maintenance and review (and not a little improvement) to their submissions.
* Everybody wins.
