Seems silly that they would not appeal...
or maybe they thought it was better to settle and keep the concept of patenting IP alive than to fight. Although I think they could have fought the patent on prior art. I would consider TSRs a form of one program asking another for help. And I am sure there were other programs that did this before Wang patented it.
