Your kidding, right?
Okay... where do I start?
I hope this isn't a troll, but I'm taking it seriously.
The original Mac and MS Windows GUIs were very much the same, with, of course, the underlying technology very different.

The statement : "To start with, the Mac only has a single mouse button and lacks the right click for properties ..." only shows that your too young to remember or don't remember the fact that MS Windows and Macs BOTH had single buttons.
The one button and two button mouses are not really an important issue. For informations sake, anyone can open up the "right click" menu on a MAC by holding down the buttom for a bit longer than a click, then BOING menu (now that I think of it; I haven't actually tried this in OSX so if it change, someone let me know). The single button was retained for simplicity and appearance.
Let's see:

the default Mac task bar was at the top; MS Windows at the bottom
Mac had a trash bin, MS Windows has a recycle bin
Macs double clicked an item to open, MS windows double clicked an item to open.

As for the Linux programs, people don't really need the dangerous APIs and VBA scripting. They can do their own scripting, or better yet, just take the open source programs and change them to their needs. I don't think the end users are going to be crying over the lack of VB scripting.
