OK...let's rehash.
First you start out complaining about the "command" that you have to type in. No mouse point/click to print? You also state that the machines may not be set up correctly.
Second you complain about the keystrokes to shutdown a window. Now you've dropped the mouse point/click requirement. People point out that the "keystrokes" do work. You admit you have no clue as to which version/release of software you're using.

So,
Based on all of this I'm gonna make a SWAG that you're a student. Now, about the set up...If you got to the command line to type in that horrible lpr command...you got there for a reason. Comp/Sci students sometime need more than "point/click/shoot" knowledge when they graduate which is why you got there (the command line.) Where I worked NOBODY, except sysadmins, got to the command line. They were locked into the desktop environment and it was configured to do exactly what they needed to do. If we found that someone had managed we worked long hours to make sure it never happened again. Yep...we were Tzars! and the management expected it.
