MS DID Copy the Mac Interface
You are talking about today's versions of the OS in question. MS copied just about everything in the Mac GUI for the original Windows offerings. There was a time when the MS Mouse had only one button too.

BTW It's those "rich APIs and VBA scripting capabilities" that makes Windows so terribly vulnerable to script kiddies. You can implement the same business logic, forms, transactions and database activities using an app server on a Linux server and a Linux client. And guess what? You don't have to buy everyone in the office/plant an expensive Office license and Outlook license.

Sure it will take some time and investment, but that may be readily returned in the savings from lock-in and excessive license fees and restrictions from Redmund. Especially if you have a large number of customer service agents that you don't want to have, or need have, to use the full capabilities of Office.

My daughter in law worked at a call center where they used a single application (i.e user interface) to do all of their work while responding to service calls regarding copier machines. This app is the only thing that their NT boxes would run. That whole call center's computer network could be easily replaced by a Linux infrastructure. My daughter in law would hate that as she wouldn't get those long breaks when the NT intranet glitched. But her employer could save a ton of money by improving the system without ponying up the big $$$ to upgrade to XP and Office 2003 (and new hardware to run it).

Think about it. Every employee doesn't need the latest, greatest virus farm from MS.

The Windows advocates don't seem to have much understanding of real business decisions.
