MS didn't copy Mac
If you use both, the Mac and Windows GUIs are very much different. If you only look at the pictures, you may not notice that, of course and may think they are the same or at least similar. They only share the notion of representing a program or data object with an icon. Mechanically they are very different.

To start with, the Mac only has a single mouse button and lacks the right click for properties and function paradigm that is the core of Windows GUI operation. Mac does it with a separate menu bar at the top of the desktop and Windows has separate menu bars for each open window that are also invoked with the right click used by most Windows users.

The copycat programs in linux work a lot like Windows but things like Open Office do not have the rich APIs and VBA scripting capabilities that have been used for almost a decade by corporations in creating custom forms and procedures based on MS Office as the corporate standard office automation product.

It's not just showing someone how to click on a different button or two, it's the redesign of years of procedures and methods and the data aligned with those procedures and methods. The linux advocates do seem to have much understanding of real business practices.
