XML is a rehash of hierarchical data management methods that were already shown to be unworkable in the 70s and 80s. That's why every business is running SQL DBMSs nowadays.

Web Services looks like CORBA revisited. If the only way you can get at data is by calling routines then you are creating an inflexible mess.

In short web services and XML offer nothing new, on the contrary they are a regression.
